In Balinese language, Taman Ayun means “beautiful garden”. As one of the Balinese temples made by ancient Mengwi Kingdom, Taman Ayun temple is also intended as a tourist place of the royal family, thus the detail parts of this Hindu temple is beautiful.

Taman Ayun Temple is one of the Balinese temple as the place to worship as well as the famous tourist destination in Bali Indonesia. This temple is situated in the village of Mengwi, Badung regency, Bali Indonesia. Its location approximately 18 kilometers from Denpasar city that can be reached within approximately 30 minutes. Landscape of Taman AyunThis temple built in 1634 by Mengwi’s first king, named Tjokerda Sakti Blambangan. This temple was originally built as pretending that available temple is too far away to reach by Mengwi’s peoples at that time. This temple was built with some purpose, such as a place to worship God that lay in other major temples like Pura Besakih or Ulun Danu Batur.

In addition, this temple has a spring in the yard. This spring is used as irrigation to the surrounding community fields. As a tourist destination, but because of his religious values, Taman Ayun temple is also famous for its architecture. The temple designers is specially imported from China. So, you will see a great combination between Chinese architecture style with Balinese traditional architecture in general.

Taman Ayun Temple is divided into 3 area. First area called “Nista Mandala” or “Jaba Pisan“. There was a small monument to guard the entrance. On the right side, there is a large building called Wantilan. There are often meetings and art performances there. There is also fountains that leads to the 9 cardinal.

Next section namely “Madya Mandala” or “Jaba Tengah“. There is a complex of small temple named Pura Luhuring Purnama in this section. There is Hall of Aling-Aling Pengubengan that decorated with reliefs depicting Dewata Nawa Sanga (9 Gods that guard cardinal directions). In the east, there is a small temple called Pura Dalem Bekak, whereas in the west corner there is a Hall of Kulkul. Kulkul is a Balinese traditional communication devices.

"Jero" section of Taman Ayun templeThe third part or the last is the highest and most sacred part, named “Utama Mandala” or “Jero“. This section is only opened when ceremony. There are many Meru (the building whose roof is pyramid-shaped) in this section. There is a special way of tourists surrounding this area, so tourists can still see the Jero section without having to enter it.

The combination of natural elements with a temple environment provides an interesting and fascinating tour. There are several ponds complete with lotus flowers and fish, which could bring the fervent prayer atmosphere.
